Belonging in community

It really felt like Spring when we welcomed Moneyreagh Community Church for the afternoon to Glenside Farm. They wanted to meet a modern day shepherd (Iain) and meet our new lambs.

The kids were excited and the adults were full of chat. It was more than evident that the afternoon offered so much more. It gave the group an opportunity to hang out together and enjoy the shared experience.

Our vision is for health and wellbeing for all, through farming, nature and community. Spending time in green spaces or bringing nature into your everyday life can benefit both your mental and physical wellbeing. Being on a working farm with pedigree livestock and meeting our newly born lambs was therapeutic for the children and the adults. Spending time as a local community gave opportunity to build relationships and bring a sense of belonging.

Social isolation and loneliness are widespread, with an estimated 1 in 4 older people experiencing social isolation and between 5 and 15 per cent of adolescents experiencing loneliness. A large body of research shows that social isolation and loneliness have a serious impact on physical and mental health, quality of life, and longevity.
